Why This Foundation Exists
Medical research changes the trajectory of human life. It deserves patient, serious support.
The most consequential advances in medicine have always required time, conviction, and sustained commitment. Breakthroughs in disease understanding, diagnostic capability, and therapeutic development do not happen overnight. They are the product of decades of disciplined research, collaboration, and investment.
Yet much of the funding landscape remains fragmented. Short-term incentives often override long-term thinking. Promising research paths go unfunded. Critical infrastructure for translational science remains underdeveloped in many parts of the world.
This foundation is being built with a different orientation, around the belief that responsible, thoughtful, long-horizon support for medical research can meaningfully contribute to progress that benefits people everywhere.

Why I am building this foundation

Founder, Allen Tan Chee Hoe Foundation
I have spent much of my career building technology companies, working with founders, and thinking about how to create things that compound value over long periods of time. The principles that guide good company building, such as patience, rigour, clarity, and alignment, are the same principles that guide meaningful philanthropy.
Medical research is one of the most important and most underappreciated drivers of human progress. The work of researchers around the world, often conducted quietly, over many years, with limited resources, has done more to improve the human condition than almost any other endeavour. It deserves serious, sustained, thoughtful support.
This foundation is being built carefully and deliberately. I am not interested in performative philanthropy. I am not interested in making claims that outpace our capacity. I am interested in building something that can make a genuine, lasting contribution to the advancement of medical research and the health of future generations.
That work takes time. It requires discipline. It demands honesty about what we know and what we do not yet know. And it is worth doing well.
